![]() System specifics discs, especially with Mac OS 9.2.2 and earlier will only work with the computer that shipped with them. If you have the original discs, or newer retail installer discs that the Mac in question supports, you can use that system to reinstall the operating system on the Mac. Mac OS 9 used a utility known as Drive Setup to format its hard drives. So if your drive appears empty being read by Mac OS 9, make sure you read it in a system that supports all older formats first before attempting to reformat it. Any data that was on it, that only newer systems can read will also be lost. If you format a drive in a system older than supports the format it was initially formatted in, all data on that drive will be lost, and it will be reformatted in a common format for the older system.
